Personal Contract Purchase agreements (PCPs) are personal car loans taken out to help you buy a car. It’s not a standard hire purchase arrangement as you will be making smaller monthly payments for the duration of your agreement and then will be left with a balloon payment (which is an option to pay the remaining balance at the end of the deal).
This balloon payment can be as much as half the value of the vehicle and you won’t own the car/van until you have settled this debt. You may have paid significantly more for your vehicle finance due to the way lenders remunerate their brokers.
If you think you have been mis-sold your PCP deal, then contact our experienced team of specialists who will fight to get the compensation you deserve. It is important that you take action without delay.

How do I know if I was mis-sold my PCP car finance?
If you’ve bought a new, or used, vehicle in the last 10 years then there’s a chance your finance agreement was mis-sold to you and, if so, you will be eligible to make a PCP claim. You can start a claim whether you have paid off the vehicle or if the agreement remains ongoing
There are many ways in which a PCP loan could have been mis-sold, making you eligible for compensation including not being made aware of who was responsible for paying for repairs, additional mileage charges or if adequate affordability checks weren’t carried out.
You may also have been given the wrong advice about your financing options or the level of interest you would be paying or the various commissions being charged within your PCP agreement by your car dealer who stood to make a significant financial gain by pushing you towards a PCP agreement.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) recently discovered widespread evidence of mis-selling on all types of vehicle financing options and that numerous lenders were incentivising dealers and brokers to charge higher interest rates so they would receive bigger commission - and this went on for years. The FCA estimates this could be costing consumers £300 million annually.
Our dedicated team of specialists can help you determine whether you are eligible to make a claim and you don’t even need to know your agreement number or the name of the dealer you bought your car from. As long as you know who you made the payments to (you’ll find this on your bank statements) we can do the rest.

How much can I claim?
You could be entitled to thousands of pounds in compensation. There is also no limit on the number of vehicles you can claim for as long as they were financed.
The amount of compensation that you could receive is all dependent on many factors including the amount of finance, the interest rates, length of the agreement, how much commission you were charged and more.
A typical example from the FCA is £1,100 compensation on a £10,000 vehicle. You may also be eligible to make more than one claim if you have entered into more than one such car loan over the last 10 years. You can even claim if you still own the vehicle.
At SJS Legal, our skilled team of professionals will review your agreement(s) and advise you as to whether you have been mis-sold PCP finance and the likely value of your claim.
